Dear friends,

this year the high holidays are quite early and we want to wish you a happy new year as well as happy holidays with your family.

About our privat life

After my first trip to Eretz Israel in September 2012 I decided to return this last April to the Promised Land before the heat starts. The picture shows me bringing a little stone from the yard of the brush factory of Otto Weidt to honour him on the wall with the names of righteous gentiles from all kind of countries.

I had a short week in Tel Aviv and Jeruschalajim and enjoyed it so very much, that my husband Aaron decided to also visit Israel in July.

It was his very first visit to Israel, he visited good friends in Nahariya and did a good portion of the country. He was surprised how green Israel is. Visiting Yad Vashem and the Western Wall was the highlight of his journey. We both are happy that we did this brief but very meaningful journey.

My DNA-Test has not brought any big news so far yet, but we hope that one day we might find some close relatives.

Aaron finally received the results of his research on his German grandfathers (we waited 10 months!) and what their duty was in WWII, so far luckily the information we got did not proof any participation on mass-shootings or anything alike.

Zerstörte Vielfalt - Diversity destroyed

continues until the end of 2013 and is to be visited in the Deutsches Historisches Museum as well as to be found all over the city: Watch out for the columns with the stories of Jewish people, all in German and English.

Berlin enjoys a global reputation as a modern, tolerant and culturally diverse metropolis. Presented under the title Diversity Destroyed, the 2013 Berlin Theme Year seeks to communicate the importance and sensitive nature of these democratic values and achievements.

The Theme Year will highlight the social and cultural diversity that was destroyed in Berlin under the Nazi regime in the years following 1933.

The eightieth anniversary of the Nazi regime accession to power on 30 January 1933 and the seventy-fifth anniversary of the November Pogroms are the cornerstones in a year of commemoration, remembrance and active engagement with the past.

"Jew in the Box" and the exhibit "The Whole Truth - everything you ever wanted to know about Jews"

I know this exhibit in the Jewish Museum is causing a lot of controversies but as a matter of fact there are a lot of people who never met a Jew and sometimes think strange about us.

Therefore, this exhibit tries to give an overview of Jewish life and as a highlight, there is a Jewish volunteer as a living part of the exhibit answering questions, usually between 14.00 - 16.00h; I found this article which also explains a bit.

I (Sue) will be the "Jew in the Box" on August 22 from 15.00 - 17.00h - if any of you want to visit me.

As a highlight in the musical scene we consider the performance of the famous musical CABARET in the tent near the Reichstag "Tipi am Kanzleramt" - your concierge will be able to get you tickets if you are interested; it is a serviced performance, little snacks and drinks are available.
